This landmark concert will include music spanning five centuries, from Renaissance masterpieces by Taverner to twentieth-century works by William Walton and contemporary music by Judith Weir. At the centre of the evening will be the world premiere of The Shadow of the Sun, a newly commissioned cantata by Christ Church's Composer in Residence, Nico Muhly.
Written especially for this anniversary year, Muhly’s work explores the ways poetry, art, and stained glass illuminate and frame the sacred through texts spanning five centuries, creating a powerful dialogue between Christ Church’s musical past and future.
Programme highlights:
Taverner - Western Wynde Mass
Walton - A Litany (Drop, drop, slow tears)
Weir - A Wreath
Muhly - The Shadow of the Sun (world premiere)
